I was going to do a goth post today, but then one of my many magazines was delivered electronically from South Africa. I really loved this specific issue as the theme was about South African heritage, old recipes and tales about my homeland on old crumpled, yellowing pages and some really old black and white pictures. I longed to actually feel and smell the book, and it was so well done that I could almost smell that old musty smell (it was not me okay! – I did take a bath!). It did put me in whole other mood for this post.
South Africa does have a very diverse culture, but they all have one thing in common, everyone is South African. When I moved to New Zealand, I had to get used to so many different cultures. People from Asia, Europe, America, South African, Canada, you name it, all they are here, trying to build a new, better life, everyone for their own reasons. Imagine all the accents in one office! So much fun and sometimes confusing at the same time.
Thing is, when you immigrate to another country, you can embrace your new country and strive to be the best citizen you can be, but you will always have your roots and you heart will always remember.
